We have an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Compliance Manager, who will drive and support effective and consistent implementation of the Company Environment Strategy at UK operational sites and provide direct support to the Environmental Strategy Manager in developing, monitoring and revising the environmental strategy, management systems and associated policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance, promote continuous improvements and best practice.

As the successful candidate, you will possess an Environmental diploma or equivalent i.e. NVQ 4 & Associate Member of IEMA (minimum). You will have proven knowledge of relevant aspects of health, safety & environmental legislation including multi experience within Transport, Engineering & Service Delivery. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to influence the environmental culture across all levels of the business.

What you'll do...

  • Act as the competent person and main point of contact, leading and coordinating the management of the UK’s environmental performance
  • Provide competent environmental advice and assistance to support the business in environmental management across the UK Division at a local level, including:
    • Supporting the development of environmental strategies that ensure corporate sustainable development;
    • Leading the implementation of environmental policies and practices
    • Co-ordinating all aspects of resource use, pollution reduction, waste management, environmental health, risk assessment and employee involvement;
    • Ensuring compliance with environmental legislation;
    • Developing and / or adhering to, pollution control, pollution prevention and recycling programmes;
    • Auditing and reporting on environmental performance;
    • Identifying, assessing and reducing the divisional environmental risks and financial costs;
    • Raising awareness,  and providing sound recommendations on the impact of emerging environmental issues, whether legislative or best practice, on corporate, ethical and social responsibility
    • Maintaining regular contact with regulatory bodies such as the Environment Agency (EA)
  • Keep abreast of environmental legislation and best practice
  • Conduct environmental risk and impact assessments to ensure potential environmental hazards are minimised and managed in line with legislative requirements and environmental standards
  • Manage and monitor the UK carbon footprint reporting and recommend actions to improve performance
  • Manage the UK’s Carbon Commitment Reduction reporting for the Environment Agency and recommend actions to reduce energy consumption, reporting financial implications and legislative changes
  • Process environmental applications where required e.g. permits, consent to discharge, waste carriers registrations to ensure legal compliance
  • Develop, create and deliver environmental training to reduce impact, prevent pollution and promote awareness
  • Implement and maintain the environmental management system to achieve certification/accreditation to ISO14001 standard
