We have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Compliance & Quality Auditor on an initial 9 month fixed term contract, whose primary purpose is to ensure our passengers are travelling on a safe mode of transport, our employees and contractors are working within a safe environment and to ensure we protect the National Express (NX) business by complying with the terms of our Operating licences. You will be responsible for and expected to undertake effective auditing to ensure we have compliance with the UK Engineering Compliance Manuals and all National Express Global Standards across the division, whilst undertaking due-diligence audits on behalf of the company.

You will hold a minimum level 3 qualification, or equivalent, in heavy vehicles, be an IRTEC Vehicle Inspector and have experience of vehicle maintenance, working within an accredited quality system  You will have a full UK PCV licence and are able to work autonomously and flexibly within a strong safety environment. You will ideally hold GCSE Grade C, or equivalent, in Maths and English and demonstrate the ability to work unsupervised. 

The successful candidate will need to be flexible in your approach to location of work, with overnight stays a requirement of this role.

What you'll do...

  • Plan, programme and carry out engineering compliance and quality audits at any National Express UK Division (including third-party operators) to ensure they meet Company and Statutory requirements.
  • Plan, programme and carry out quality audits to ensure all maintenance is recorded and endorsed correctly, in accordance with ISO 9001: 2015 and in-line with NX Global Maintenance Standards.
  • Report on the effective application of all Company and Statutory requirements on those operators and clearly highlight shortfalls where identified.  Where shortfalls are identified, to provide clear and unambiguous guidance to help Operators comply and monitor their progress toward compliance; making revisits when necessary.
  • Issue and enforce non-conformances to locations which do not comply with the requirements of the documented quality system.
  • Develop, maintain and ensure the effective application of safe external and internal working practices during audits, spot checks, and other duties
  • Carry out vehicle inspection spot checks (top-side) at appropriate locations throughout the UK.
  • Identify areas importing significant risk to the business for immediate attention.
  • Communicate and promote the concept of effective maintenance practices verbally and in written reports.

Things to note...

National Express has a very high focus on health and safety and as a result operates a strict Drugs and Alcohol Policy which is applicable to all employees.

Drug and Alcohol testing is completed as part of the assessment process as well as random checks during employment acording to the policy.
