Purpose of the role:

Working as part of a highly experienced communications team, this role is fundamental to support the business growth strategy of National Express UK businesses within two key brands.  Through effective internal communications activity, we are seeking individuals that have demonstrable experience at managing and delivering effective internal communications strategies.  The primary focus of this role would be to partner with the exec team of National Express Transport Solutions (NETS), and National Express Accessible Transport (NEAT). 

Based in either Fareham or Gillingham, our ideal candidate would be supporting UK wide activity, and working closely with the Head of UK Internal Communications to deliver the Internal Communications Strategy for National Express UK divisions.

Key Accountabilities

  • To support NETS/NEAT senior management team with internal communications and employee engagement.

  • Support NETS/NEAT senior management team with integration of brands including the wider UK/Group integration.

  • To adapt and disseminate, as appropriate, UK and Group internal communications and employee engagement initiatives to NETS employees.

  • To lead on, where required, UK-wide communications and employee engagement initiatives.

  • Establish an internal communications strategy/approach in conjunction with the Head of UK Internal Communications.

  • Ensure organisational initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to employees.

  • Plan, edit and write content for a variety of internal communications channels, such as monthly magazines, regular email bulletins and internal social media.

  • Ensure internal communications messages are consistent across all channels and for different departments of the business.

  • Handle the internal communication response to crisis situations which affect organisational perception and reputation.

  • Minimum 5 years’ internal communications experience - either agency or in-house

  • Excellent verbal and written skills with a keen attention to detail

  • Experience of communicating to a large geographically dispersed workforce

  • Experience of writing for a variety of different audiences

  • Experience of working on complex projects

  • Strong planning and organisational skills

  • Good time management and prioritisation 

  • Experience of building and maintaining relationships with senior management

  • Idea generation and creative thinking

  • Ability to work closely with a range of internal departments

  • Self-motivated, highly flexible and ability to use initiative to do a great job


  • Qualified at degree level in journalism, communications or public relations 

  • Full Driving Licence and access to a vehicle

  • Experience in working with senior internal stakeholders
