The Kings Ferry Group, part of National Express Group, are currently recruiting for an Operations Manager in Gillingham, who will plan and manage all aspects of the operational provision at The Kings Ferry in order to deliver a consistently safe & high quality service in line with specified targets, contractual obligations and commercial objectives.

Role Purpose:

  • Delivering safe, reliable, punctual, high quality services to our customers.  Meeting and exceeding defined standards and agreed targets.  Maintain tight control on costs and maximise revenue through excellent contract performance and utilisation of both the fleet and driver resource
  • Ensuring safe operation of all movements in strict accordance with all relevant policies, procedures and legal requirements. Manage a team whose duties are to plan and allocate all work in accordance with EC Drivers Hours Regulations and Working Time Regulations (Road Transport Directive).  Full responsibility for driver & vehicle legal compliance, monitoring and reporting
  • Managing of Human Resources in the Operations department to maintain optimum engagement and accurate records. To includes administration of payroll, holidays, recruitment, disciplinary and performance matters. (and any other HR matter affecting the Operations team) To maintain all operational Health & Safety standards in line with audited requirements. E.g. 8.4
  • Joint responsibility with Engineering Manager for delivery of Health & Safety regulations, objectives and initiatives.  Ensuring high pass rates achieved for all Health & Safety Audits internal and external.

What we’re looking for:

  • Excellent working knowledge of all daily site procedures, health and safety regulations, employment legislation, and people management practices
  • Thorough appreciation of the needs of external customers and internal customers, coupled with the ability to identify areas for improvement and implement effective action plans.
  • Understanding of the road passenger transport sector, including relevant legal and external regulations and requirements for the operation of passenger carrying vehicles.
  • Ability to devise, implement, manage and review effective processes to ensure consistency and best practices
  • Experienced in managing and motivating a team to achieve high standards of performance in a unionised environment
  • Flexible approach to working hours – able to attend out-of-hours external meetings and respond quickly to any “on-call” requirements.
