We have an exciting opportunity for an Operational Inspector, based at Walsall, who will be responsible for quality of service, drivers and customer service on a day to day basis. You will provide assistance, support and leadership to the daily operation of the garage as required.

As the successful candidate, you will have relevant operational experience in a scheduled service environment, with the confidence in dealing with individuals at all levels of the organisation. You will have excellent attention to detail along with well-developed verbal and written communications skills and the ability to influence.

What you'll do...

  • Oversee service out/in and ensure VCR’s are completed fully and correctly by Drivers.  To drive buses as required and ensure mileage is completed if relief’s for drivers are needed if qualified to do so.
  • Communicate in a clear, precise and approachable manner, in writing or verbally, to relay messages and to openly encourage genuine two-way communication.  The radio system must be used in a proactive manner in order to ensure efficient communication, delivery of published services and swift channelling of emergency requirements.
  • Give Drivers clear guidelines at planned and/or unplanned diversions and explain routes to Drivers requiring guidance.  To engage in routine revenue protection duties and attend potential or actual incidents to stop or minimise loss, theft, vandalism to Company property or assault to Company employees.
  • Monitor and take appropriate corrective actions to Drivers by ensuring timetable adherence, correct uniform is worn at all times, reporting less than satisfactory driving standards and to establish potential insurance risks.
  • Ensure good customer care is delivered and be fully aware of quality standards ensuring the delivery of a quality product to the customer.  To promote a positive Company and self-image when communicating with customers and to wear full uniform issued and the wear/use any ancillary items as directed.
  • Highlight any development areas or weaknesses of Drivers to the Training department.  Have a good knowledge of legislation and ensure compliance with Drivers Hours Regulations, health and safety regulations and all other Company policies and procedures.
  • Assist in cascading information to Drivers where and when necessary.  To monitor other operators in all its forms and producing good quality, detailed reports any suggestions on a strategy to minimise local effects as directed from time to time and generally during the course of a day.
  • Demonstrate and recognise that the Inspector role is a key level of management and that working hours, flexibility and general attitude should reflect this.  Obtain details at RTA locations (i.e. obtaining witness details/photos)
  • Regulate services where required by the use of technology (iPads) and inform customers of problems affecting their services.
  • Do anything to reasonably assist existing customers and promote the Company to potential customers, within Company policy including Revenue Protection.
