Working with the Analytics and Optimisation Manager and the Optimisation Analyst within the wider Digital team you will develop, build and run AB and multivariate tests across our UK websites.

We work with Oracle Maxymiser, who provide our multivariate testing tool. You will become an expert in this tool, learning to use their javascript API to produce tests based on your own knowledge of first class user experience principles and research.

Your day to day work could be as simple as designing and building a new landing page for an email campaign or as complex as changing the logic and presentation of our angular booking app based on user research you have conducted. 

You must be a talented user experience expert with a talent for using your front end development skills to bring your ideas to life. Through testing you will learn what works and what doesn’t work on an eCommerce website and use these findings to enhance your hypotheses for future tests.

As well as this you will be able to support on ad hoc tasks and projects such as developing javascript tags for use in google tag manager, using google apps script to develop automated reporting tools and supporting our web development team in more traditional front end development.

This is a new role at National Express, and as such you will become an integral part of our Digital team. This role is based at our office in Digbeth with the option for flexible working (1+ days in the office) or full time office based. The majority of the team choose a flexible approach, working around 2 days in the office.

This role is ideal if you are a front end developer with strong JS, CSS and HTML experience and are looking for a new and different challenge within a thriving eCommerce environment. You will work on varied and interesting projects, and be given the opportunity to grow your knowledge and gain new skills.

To succeed in this role, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • A solid understanding of user experience focused design and how this translates into commercial benefit

  • Front end web development skills – Highly proficient with HTML, CSS and vanilla

  • Javascript

  • Experience of working independently as well as within a small team to varied and challenging objectives.

  • A passion for new challenges and learning new skills.

Key aspects of the role

  • Support the Analytics and Optimisation Manager and Optimisation Analyst in the development of test designs, testing hypotheses and testing feasibility.

  • Building test content to specification on a variety of pages, including within an angular single page application.

  • Testing and quality assurance of new test builds.

  • Working with external agency to develop knowledge, troubleshoot and monitor tests.

  • Working closely with the web development team & eCommerce team to share knowledge on test changes as well as providing ad hoc project support as required.

Key Requirements

  • Excellent HTML, CSS and Javascript skills.

  • Demonstrable experience of improving a digital user experience in a measurable way

  • Experience of working on projects independently.

  • A general “can do” attitude with an enthusiasm for new challenges and learning new skills.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience of Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager.

  • UX design experience

  • Experience of AB and multivariate testing (in particular using the Oracle Maxymiser platform).

  • Experience of Google Apps Script.
