Engineering Technical Trainer
Are you an experienced PSV or heavy vehicle technician with a passion for sharing knowledge, developing talent, and keeping pace with cutting edge vehicle technology? National Express Bus is looking for an Engineering Technical Trainer to build the capability, confidence, and competence of our engineering workforce.
In this hands-on role, you will design and deliver practical, high quality technical training across our Midlands depots. You will mentor technicians and apprentices, partner with vehicle manufacturers, and lead our teams through the transition to modern vehicle systems and zero emission fleets.
Where you will be based
This role is centered at Miller Street, with regular travel across all operational bus depots in the Midlands.
What you will actually be doing
- Design & Deliver Training: Lead the creation and delivery of practical, engaging technical training programs tailored to modern PSVs and heavy vehicles.
- Develop Engineering Talent: Deliver comprehensive technical inductions for new joiners, create structured learning pathways, and mentor technicians and apprentices.
- Assess Skills Gaps: Conduct regular skills gap assessments across depot teams to address performance trends, improve safety, and elevate technical standards.
- Partner with Manufacturers: Build strong working relationships with vehicle manufacturers, technical specialists, and external training providers to stay ahead of industry trends.
- Future Proof Our Fleet: Support our proactive training strategy by preparing engineering teams for emerging vehicle technologies, including electric and hybrid systems.
- Promote Safety & Quality: Act as a subject matter expert, translating safety and compliance requirements into practical workplace learning.
What we need from you
- Engineering Background: Proven experience as a PSV Technician, Heavy Vehicle Technician, or Vehicle Engineer within a workshop environment.
- Technical Qualifications: Level 3 qualification in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, Automotive Engineering, or equivalent.
- Training & Coaching Skills: Demonstrable experience coaching, mentoring, or delivering technical training to engineering colleagues.
- Driving Licence: A full UK car driving licence is essential to visit and support our operational sites across the region.
- Desirable Extras: EV/Hybrid qualifications, diagnostic certifications, IOSH Managing Safely, or a recognised workplace assessor / coaching qualification.
